Frequently Asked Questions

  • How soon after the event do I need to send my flowers for preservation?

We can preserve flowers upto a week after but this will depend upon their condition on arrival at our studio.

  • Do I have to book in advance to have my flowers preserved?

We understand that having flowers preserved is often a last minute decision and we are always happy to help. There can be advantages to booking in advance and usually it is not essential however we are exceptionally busy at the moment so we strongly recommend that you do so if you can.

We are still accepting last minute bookings but on a first come first served basis until we run out of capacity.

We will require a deposit £150.00 to secure your booking with us.

  • Do you only preserve Wedding bouquets ?

Not at all there are lots of reasons why our customers want us to preserve flowers capturing special memories to treasure.

  • Do you offer a flower pressing service in addition to three dimensional flower preservation ?

At Precious Petals we offer all forms of flower preservation. This way we are able to offer the very best results for our customers.

Flowers can be pressed flat or dried three dimensionally both of which are very beautiful and provide different ways to enjoy your flowers for years to come.

  • My flowers are in poor condition, is there anything you can do improve them?

The results in flower preservation will depend upon the quality of the flowers that we are working with.

Our flower preserver will take each flower and access its quality before preserving it.

If we think that any of your flowers may compromise the end result of your picture we will let you know when we send our recommendations to you.

If necessary and only with your permission we can then source and replace any flowers that will spoil the visual quality of your display.

Alternatively you may prefer to choose to scale down and just use the very best of your flowers.

  • How do I get my flowers to you for preservation?

The best way to get the flowers to us is to hand deliver them to our studio in Hampshire (Always call first to book an appointment to do this).

If you live too far away to do this we find that the majority of our clients find that using Royal Mail over night service is the cheapest and most convenient service.

Or we can arrange a same day courier collection from any Uk mainland address Monday- Thursday provided it is booked before midday for £25.

  • Do preserved flowers look the same as fresh flowers?

When flowers are preserved the moisture is extracted from them, this will mean that the colours and texture will change in a beautiful way.

The results will always vary depending upon the variety, pigment and condition of the flowers that we are working with. Please do contact us if you would like to discuss in more detail how your flowers will look when they are preserved.

  • Do I need to decide on the design and frame for my display before I book with you?

No not at all. When we receive your flowers we will photograph and measure them before preserving them. Once the preservation process has begun we will send to you our suggestion for their display , you then have a month to decide what you would like and confirm your order . At this stage we ask that ( if necessary) the deposit is increased to fifty per cent.

Our artists are always keen to help you with these decisions either at the studio, over the telephone or why not book a virtual meeting with us ?

  • How long will my preserved flower display take?

Once you have confirmed your display, it will take us about eighteen weeks to complete your display. Your final payment is due a month before completion.

  • How big will my frame be?

Our work is bespoke the size and style of the frame will be made by our master framer to your specifications. We usually measure the full arrangement and add 5cms to work out the full size that you would need .The depth of the frame will be made to fit your flowers ( on average they are about 6 cms or flat if you are having your flowers pressed).

  • Do I have to have my flowers framed?

Your flowers will be very fragile once they are preserved and will need to be protected by glass or resin to last.

The advantage of framing preserved flowers is that it avoids putting your flowers through the encapsulation process which can effect the visual results.

We can display your flowers in paperweights if you are keen to have a free standing piece or our hinged frames do look beautiful on a sideboard or mantle piece.

  • Does it need to look like my bouquet did on the day or can you display the flowers in a different design?

Whilst the majority of our brides are looking to have their flowers look just like they did on their wedding day, there are also lots of lovely alternative ways that the flowers can be displayed. Our artists are always delighted to help you with fresh ideas creating a unique piece of art for you with extra special meaning for you to treasure.

  • Can I add non floral items in my display ?

It can be a lovely idea to incorporate non floral items in the display. In the past we have been asked to include photographs, invitations, poems, vows, cake decorations . We have also been asked to include slightly more unusual items such as dog collars and shoe laces. Please contact us to discuss anything that you may have in mind and we can advise you on whether they may be suitable.

  • Can I have my flowers in a paperweight and are all flowers suitable for paperweights or resin?

The majority of flowers can be put in a paperweight.

Our paperweights are 3.5" spheres which are big enough for a standard rose or small peony. Pale flowers can become translucent and take on a beautiful floaty appearance within the sphere.

There are cost advantages to ordering more than one, or why not add them to your picture order and benefit from our half price offer.

  • How long will my preserved flowers last?

We have been preserving flowers for over 35 years and have early examples of our work in our studio that still look lovely. We also have received feedback from our early customers complimenting us on how beautiful their flowers look after such a long time. To ensure that your flowers continue to look good once you have recieved them it is vital that you follow our instructions on how they should be displayed.

Your picture will be glazed with conversation glass, which will filter out some ultra violet light. However, your preserved flowers are perishable and over time there can be a mellowing of colour, which is to be expected with products of this nature. The preserved flowers should not be displayed in direct sunlight, above a heat source or anywhere that moisture could be absorbed through the frame. The preserved flowers should not be stored in damp conditions, such a rooms with no heating in winter time. Do not store your display in bubble wrap or in conditions that could cause condensation within the picture. Please note that if your preserved flowers are stored in conditions that we have advised against, the flowers are likely to deteriorate much quicker than you would expect them to. If you have any questions about how to store the preserved flowers to keep them at their best, please contact us and we can advise you accordingly

  • Can I buy a gift voucher ?

Yes we offer gift vouchers in the form of beautiful handmade cards for to give to your family and friends in advance of their wedding day.

  • Am I able to spread the cost ?

Initially we ask for a deposit £150.00 , once the flowers have been preserved we ask that you confirm the display and (if necessary) increase your deposit to fifty per cent within 4 weeks . The final balance is then due 14 weeks later.

  • Is it cheaper to have more than one preserved flower display?
